George “Sonny” Yager passed away at 6:45 A.M at his residence in rural Willow Hill, IL on Monday October 31, 2016.

VISITATION: 9:00A.M. – 11:00 A.M. FRIDAY NOVEMBER 4, 2016 at Pulliam Funeral Home Oblong, IL.

SERVICE: 11:00 A.M. FRIDAY NOVEMBER 4, 2016 at Pulliam Funeral Home Oblong, IL. Burial to follow in Yager Cemetery, Rural Oblong.

The family request that an expression of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Saint Valentine Church Hall with envelopes at or may be mailed to Pulliam Funeral Home P.O. Box 121 Oblong, IL 62449.

Sonny was born on March 22, 1933 in Iowa City, Iowa to George Otto Yager and Margaret Ann (Hippler) Yager. On August 18, 1956 he married Ida Imogene Gasso who preceded him in death in 2007.

Sonny grew up in the Bend Area and was a lifelong farmer in Jasper County. He also worked for Stewart Security at the Marathon Refinery in Robinson, IL as a security guard. Sonny served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Saint Valentine Catholic Church and the Ste. Marie American Legion Post 0932. Sonny enjoyed mowing, fishing and gardening. He also enjoyed arrowhead hunting, riding his snowmobile and playing music on his DOBRO.

Sonny is survived by one son and daughter-in-law Donald “Donnie” and Dana Yager, Willow Hill; two daughters and son-in-law Darlene and Kevin Dart, Oblong, IL and Gloria Kay Litzelman, Ste. Marie, IL. He is also survived by one Brother Ralph E. Yager, Richland, OR and one sister and brother-in-law Patsy and Jerry Schadel, Dixon, IA. Sonny had 19 Grandchildren, 25 Great-Grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding Sonny in death were his parents, his wife Ida Imogene Yager, daughter Shirley Yager, two sisters Judy Yager and Geneva Greene and infant brother Donald Eugene Yager.
